India Confirms China Troop Face-Offs in Arunachal Pradesh Amid Border Tensions

India has confirmed face-offs with Chinese PLA troops at multiple Arunachal Pradesh locations since late July. As flag meetings and hotlines manage tensions, Mallikarjun Kharge demands answers from PM Modi.

India has confirmed ongoing face-offs with Chinese troops at multiple locations in Arunachal Pradesh, with tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) continuing as both sides rely on diplomatic and military communication to prevent escalation.

On October 22, ITBP Director General Shatrujeet Kapur acknowledged the encounters with China's People's Liberation Army (PLA), which began in late July at several locations, including Asaphila and Maja. The developments followed the appearance of Chinese tents in areas within India's view of the Line of Actual Control.

Indian forces, including the newly deployed Shaurya commandos, held their ground during the face-offs. Both sides have been using flag meetings and hotlines to manage tensions and prevent the confrontations from turning violent.

The border situation has also triggered political reactions in India. Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge described the developments as deeply alarming and demanded answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing face-offs with Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh.

Analysts have characterised China's approach as “bulletless aggression”, reflecting concerns over confrontations that unfold without direct armed conflict. The encounters have placed renewed attention on the management of tensions along the disputed border and the measures being used to maintain stability.

Despite the reported face-offs, defence sources said the overall situation remains stable. The developments come as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) marks its 65th Raising Day celebrations on October 24, with the border situation continuing to draw political and strategic attention.
